Human-Macaque Interface (HUMAIN)

Program Leader of Program HUMAIN (Human-Macaque Interface) funded by the Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines. (January 2021-December 2022).

HUMAIN Program is a collaborative research and conservation project of the University of the Philippines Mindanao, UP Visayas Tacloban College, University of Southern Mindanao, and Visayas State University. The program is funded by the National Research Council of the Philiippines. The goals of the program are the following:

  1. Determine the behavior and diet preferences of long-tailed macaques in selected human modified landscapes of Leyte and Mindanao islands.
  2. Assess long-tailed macaque gastro-intestinal parasite fauna in the area.
  3. Understand the societal knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) of locals and tourists.
  4. Create a Conflict-Zoonosis Index for Tourist Areas.
  5. Conduct awareness campaigns about wildlife biology, zoonosis, human-wildlife interaction, and conservation.
